Last month, the Karnataka Congress launched a campaign to target the state government for alleged corruption. The party asked citizens of the state to report corruption and file complaints on 40percentsarkara.com.

The party also said that despite sufficient evidence against Minister KS Eshwarappa – accused of encouraging the suicide of an entrepreneur in Belagavi – the government gave him a free kick. Before his death, the contractor, Santosh Patil, had accused Eshwarappa and his associates of not releasing payments for road works worth Rs 4 crore he had carried out at Hindalga in Belagavi, and demanding a 40% fee.
