HYDERABAD: Social media users are sharing Time Magazine’s cover showing Adolf Hitler’s face partly juxtaposed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photo.
Netizens are comparing the rule of the Modi government to Hitler’s regime in Germany. Text on the magazine’s cover reads: “History returns. How Modi shattered India’s dreams.”
FACT CHECK:
Welsh designer Patrick Mulder in February this year shared a similar mockup that shows Adolf Hitler’s face superimposed on the face of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mulder created parody covers of TIME magazine to help protesters who oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He posted a detailed video on Twitter showing the process of creating such cover images using the Time Media logo. (Read more here)
The cover of the viral magazine is also just a fake illustration created by someone. Although Newsmeter could not independently verify the artist behind the viral cover, it is clearly not an original Time Media cover.
So the cover is a fake.
