Pandora Hearts
Pandora Hearts is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki (also the creator of the currently ongoing game The Vanitas Case Study). It ran in Square Enix Monthly GFantasy magazine from May 2006 to March 2015, and was compiled into 24 volumes. Yen Press publishes the manga in English, and they describe the story:
The celebratory air surrounding fifteen-year-old Oz Vessalius’ coming-of-age ceremony quickly turns to horror when he is condemned for a sin he knows nothing about. He is thrown into an eternal, inescapable prison known as the Abyss from which there is no escape. There he meets a young girl named Alice, who is not what she seems. Now that the relentless cogs of fate have begun to turn, are they only leading to Oz’s crushing despair, or is there a shred of hope he can cling to?
It also received a 25-episode anime adaptation by studio Xebec which ran from April 2009 to September 2009. It covered up to chapter 33 of the manga, but it also had several differences. You can watch it on both Funimation and Crunchyroll.
The special illustration for the 15th anniversary of Pandora Hearts is a nice reminder for fans of the franchise. The manga spanned over 5 years after the original anime, and the amazing story explained a lot that anime fans never had a chance to experience, so we can only hope to see it animated in the future. to come up.
