Award-winning local performer on the cover of the magazine

UTICA – Sherry Anne, Utica’s own recording artist, is on the Spring 2021 cover of Hearing Life magazine. She is featured in the cover story “The Joy of Music” of the magazine published by the Hearing Loss Association of America. The association has a chapter located in Utica. The feature chronicles her journey of overcoming hearing loss to become an award-winning singer-songwriter.

“Personal stories, such as Sherry Anne’s, are a powerful tool to help people with hearing loss find encouragement,” said Carrie Johnson, director of communications, Hearing Loss Association of America, Rockville, MD.

Sherry Anne has bilateral hearing loss that was only diagnosed in kindergarten. Receiving one, then a second hearing aid allows him to learn, communicate and excel in academics, sports and the arts. Her journey is not free from struggles with bullying and other social impacts experienced by people with hearing loss, but as an award-winning singer-songwriter, speaker and author, Sherry Anne embodies a message of hope for those who face any type of obstacle.

Sherry Anne has received nationally recognized awards for her singing and songwriting. His first live concert DVD debuted in the top 5 on the Billboard Video charts. She sang as a special guest with the Grammy-winning Gaither Vocal Band and was a keynote speaker at women’s and singles conferences across the United States. She starred in two feature films. She was named the 2020 HearStrong Champion. The Spring 2021 issue of Hearing Life shares the stories of 11 remarkable people, including Syracuse University and Ithaca College graduate and classical guitarist Charles Mokotoff, and visual music innovator Jay Alan Zimmerman, who lost hearing in part because of the events of September 11.
